SJCAC Housing Fund

Watch the Overview

A short introduction to how the SJCAC Housing Fund works and who it serves.

An innovative financing option to support staff in achieving home ownership

The SJCAC Housing Fund combines charitable giving and investment capital to create an affordable pathway to homeownership for SJCAC staff, so the people who make the church’s ministry possible can put down roots in the community they serve.

What This Fund Does

The SJCAC Housing Fund was created to:

Lower the barrier to homeownership by reducing the down payment and monthly cost for participating staff.

Invest in SJCAC’s leaders, helping staff establish deeper roots in the community while they serve.

Keep giving over time, as capital returned from home sales and repayments is reinvested for future staff.

Why It Matters

The long-term vitality of SJCAC depends on cultivating and retaining a new generation of leaders who can faithfully serve the church and community for years to come. In the high-cost Bay Area, access to affordable housing can be a significant barrier to that vision. The SJCAC Housing Fund helps remove it.

Who Is This Fund For?

The SJCAC Housing Fund serves two groups:

SJCAC Ministers & Staff
Full-time ministers and staff who have worked at SJCAC for at least one year and are recommended by the Board, buying a first home in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Santa Cruz or Alameda County within 35 driving miles of SJCAC.

Supporters & Investors
Members and friends of SJCAC who want to give through a donor-advised fund, an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution, or a direct gift, and accredited investors who want to invest in the Fund.

How It Works

The Fund provides up to 30% of a home’s purchase price, up to $400,000, as an equity investment with no monthly payments. That reduces the mortgage, can eliminate mortgage insurance, and lowers the monthly cost.

When the home is sold or refinanced, within six months of leaving SJCAC, or after 10 years, whichever comes first, the Fund receives its share of the home’s value and reinvests it for future staff.

Partners Who Share Our Mission

Sycamore Equity works with partner organizations and lenders who know the program and offer financing that supports stable homeownership for SJCAC staff.
